Hi guys,
Unfortunately, we cannot continue at the lake. However I will be open from 10:00am until 6:00pm on Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th and possibly Friday 7th. Fishing will be 10€ per head, baits and tackle 50% discount. Also, most things there will be on offer. Water level is down about 4 feet (yes, they did take some for the fire). Doesn't seem to have affected the fishing though. Hope you can make it for this last chance to fish at what I considered was the best water in Andalucía.
Regards,
Mike

Hi guys,
Opening day went fabulously, at least 5 doubles caught. A special mention to Ken, who landed the largest fish I have seen caught here in a good while. A 16lbs plus mirror, which, from now on will be called BETTY. Very little sign of fungus and most of the fish are clear of parasites.
Hope to see you soon,
Cheers,
Mike

LAGO EL DORADO / Rule changes
Full rule changes will soon be published on our website. (All general rules still apply) The ones below are enforced from April 1st:
Hooks: Max. size 8, barbless. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Line: Min. 6lbs, max. 15lbs. NO EXCEPTIONS. No steel traces allowed.
Landing nets: You will either have to rent a landing net from me for 3€ a day or leave a net with me which I will label and clean ready for your next visit.
The fish 5 times, 6th time free is to be phased out. I will honour all outstanding sheets. This money will go towards the cleaning and storing of your nets.
Dipping your nets is not acceptable.
Baits: Allowed: bread, corn, maggots, worms, cat biscuit (mine only), ground bait (mine only), pellets (mine only), false corn, hemp, chick peas, frankfurters, boilies.
There will be a quantity per day limit on all above.
Not allowed: home made groundbaits, dead or live fish, lures, nuts, bird seed, dog biscuit, tinned animal food, meat, beans, peas.
NO HEAVY BAITING.
Please, leave any leftover baits in at the office or throw them away when you leave.
NEVER THROW BAIT INTO THE LAKE WITHOUT PERMISSION.
Anglers must let officials inspect their tackle at any time.
Rental is only available to anglers who can provide a current UK, Spanish, European course fishing licence.
Handling of fish: Is not permitted. Obviously there are some situations where you have no choice, please, wet your hands and call an official.
Photos must be taken with the fish in the net or on a wet landing matt on the ground.
NO HOLDING UP OF FISH.
Smoking: Respect smoking signs in the building. ALWAYS USE THE ASHTRAYS PROVIDED AROUND THE LAKE. The risk of fire is huge.
Access round the lake: NOBODY who is not angling can go around the lake without permission.
The parasites: For the moment, parasites will have to be removed from the fish using tweezers when they are caught.
As each of you come to fish again, I will obviously go through everything with you. We have been closed for 10 weeks and this has given me a chance to take some steps to control the water better and loose less fish. My two people per day using my licence offer still stands. From now on, you have to book to use this option, and will have to have been a regular here. For the moment there will be no exceptions as I do need to control the standard of fishing here.
I hope to see you soon.
Regards,
Mike

Hi guys,
A quick update: The gill fungus seems to have gone. We are treating the white spot at the moment, yet, we can do nothing about the parasite. If the fish are healthy, theoretically, the parasite should not reach epidemic proportions. (Fingers crossed)
We plan to reopen within 3 weeks and will keep you informed as to the exact date.
There are going to be some rule changes made regarding landing nets, baits, line, no. of pegs, etc.
Hopefully I will not upset too many people but I cannot allow anything like this to happen here again. The critical thing at an intensive fishery is good management of the water which I am doing with the advise of qualified backup. Obviously, the management expect full cooperation on regulations.
Thanks to all.
Cheers,
Mike

Hi guys,
The UK environment agency say that a good way to sterilize gear and nets is with sunlight. Luckily there is no lack of that here. Until this is over, the cafeteria and tackle shop will be open from Tuesday til Saturday, from 11:00am until 4:00pm
We'll keep you informed on the situation. We have no fish deaths so far.
Cheers,
Mike

Any professional advice will be greatly appreciated.
Nitrate, nitrite, amonia levels of the water are 0.
PH is slightly alkaline at 8, but I am adjusting that to 7,6 (the ideal) as the water that flows into the lake has a PH of 7,4 and I can adjust the flow.
Water temperature is currently 6C, the coldest it has been for 3 years. The temperature of the water entering the lake is 15C.
Surface of the lake is approximately 3.600m2, average depth 4m. Estimate approximately 15.000.000 litres.
Please forward any suggestions.
Cheers,
Mike
